Fundraiser includes concealed-carry certification

Guaranteed to raise the heartbeat and fire up the juices, the first annual SWAT Emergency Response Team demonstration features marksmen from the Teller County Sheriff’s Office.

A fundraiser for Teller County’s team to compete in the U.S. National SWAT Championship, the Sept. 10 event will include opportunities for individuals to hone their shooting skills.

Sponsored by the Honorary Deputy Sheriff’s Association, the tactical demonstration provides public education as well as training for the 15-member emergency response team, seven of whom will compete in the national championship.

For the public, the event includes a certification class for concealed-handgun permits and a chance to compete in live scenarios where participants are invited to test their shooting skills while watching demonstrations by the team.

Participants are asked to bring a handgun and 150 rounds of ammunition. For the $175 registration fee, the HDSA plans to raise $8,000 to send the Teller County team to the championships in October in Tulsa, Ok.
